Manchester City again linked with a Nice star and he could be the ideal January signing

As the January transfer window is now open Manchester City has once again been linked with Nice star Khephren Thuram. Italian news outlet TV Play has reported that Pep Guardiola has asked club officials to seal a deal for the French international. If City can seal a deal for the midfielder he could be the ideal January signing for the world champions.

With Kalvin Phillips appearing to be headed for a January exit the champions may need a replacement this transfer window. Rodri is arguably City’s most important player. What he brings to the treble winners can’t be replaced when he’s out. Pep Guardiola’s side has lost all 4 games the midfielder has missed so far this season. If Phillips was to depart in January another option in midfield does appear required. That may be where Nice star Khephren Thuram fits into the City squad.

The versatility of Thuram to play as a defensive midfielder or in a more advanced role would appear to make him an ideal candidate to join Manchester City. His versatility would allow him to fulfil multiple roles for Pep Guardiola. With his defensive ability and physical attributes he would also bring something different to the City midfield. Manchester City are blessed with a plethora of midfield technicians but someone with the raw physical abilities of Thuram could add another dimension to Pep Guardiola’s midfield.

TV Play also reports that Nice would demand a transfer fee of €40 million for Thuram. With that valuation, it could be a relatively easy deal for Manchester City to complete if the reports are accurate.

With Kalvin Phillips future still to be resolved, it may be a case of one in and one out for the treble winners. Khephren Thuram could prove to be the ideal January signing for City.
