Manchester City’s dynamic winger Jeremy Doku could return within weeks. The Belgian international has been out with a hamstring injury since his side’s 3-all draw with Tottenham at the Etihad in early December.
The winger has missed City’s last 8 games as he recovers from injury. He did return to light training in Saudi Arabia. He didn’t feature at the FIFA Club World Cup and is yet to return to the Manchester City squad.
City manager Pep Guardiola is hopeful of a return for Jeremy Doku in the next few weeks. The City boss was asked about Doku’s injury status following his side’s win over Sheffield United. He told the media he hadn’t provided an update on the winger as he hadn’t been asked of late. Guardiola said: “Yeah, nobody asked me about Jeremy, just Kevin and Erling, Kevin and Erling, Kevin and Erling… It’s soon, soon I think he’s back. They are a bit cautious because he’s so explosive, one-against-one, and muscular, but I think for the next weeks he will be ready, I hope so.”
It will be a major boost for the world champions to get Doku back in the squad. He adds a different dimension to City’s game. His presence has been missed in his absence despite the treble winners’ good run of form recently.
The Belgian international has scored 4 goals and added 6 assists in 19 appearances so far this season. He has quickly become a crowd favourite at the Etihad and one of the most dangerous wingers in the Premier League. His return from injury will be a welcome addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad ahead of a busy schedule starting in February.
