City’s academy poster boy is fast becoming one of the Premier League’s best

Manchester City’s academy poster boy Phil Foden is fast becoming one of the best players in the Premier League. The England international has taken his game to another level in recent weeks and his influence on games is growing. After such a promising start to his career, this season has seen Foden take steps to become one of the elite players in the Premier League and European football.

Against Sheffield United at the Etihad, the midfielder continued his recent impressive form. After a dominant display against Everton at Goodison Park Foden was again his side’s best against the Blades. The influence of the midfielder was evident across the full 90 minutes as he dictated proceedings against a packed Sheffield United defence. The visitors couldn’t cope with the movement and intelligence of City’s academy poster boy. His team reaped the rewards of Foden’s excellence.

The midfielder picked up two assists as he was a key piece of Pep Guardiola’s sides 2-nil win. His deft touch provided Rodri with the space to surge into the box and open the scoring in the 14th minute. Against a packed Sheffield United defence it was the perfect piece of play to open the visitor’s defence.

Foden’s second assist and the lead-up play will be shown for some time. The England international made a lovely run and was found by a David Silva-esque pass by Oscar Bobb. Foden then put the ball on a plate for Julian Alvarez to tap in. The goal summed up all that is great about Manchester City with Foden at the heart of the move.

Based on Foden’s last two games it is clear he is becoming one of the Premier League’s best players. If his development continues at this rate ha may stand alone with that mantle.
