Kevin De Bruyne returns to the City squad for Manchester City’s clash with Sheffield United

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is back in the City squad for today’s game against Sheffield United. The midfielder has been out since City’s opening-day victory over Burnley at Turf Moor.

Simon Bajkowski of Manchester Evening News reports via his official X account that the Belgian international is amongst the Manchester City squad today.

It is welcome news for the treble winners to have their midfield talisman back in the squad. It will be the first time Kevin De Bruyne has featured for the world champions since he had hamstring surgery in August. While City are well positioned for the second half of the season having arguably their best player back in the squad is welcome news for the European champions.

Pep Guardiola hinted yesterday during his pre-game press conference that the return of De Bruyne was imminent. The City manager told the media that the midfielder had been training well. He also added that the time off had been a good thing for De Buyne. He told the media: “Yeah, absolutely! How he’s training is with a lot of energy. For his mind, and I know injuries are not good for anyone, but I think these two or three months off has been good for him, the desire to come back, to play what he loves, playing football.”

After nearly 5 months out the return of De Bruyne is welcome news. He will no doubt receive a heroes welcome from the Manchester City fans upon his return.
