Manchester City close in on Claudio Echeverri deal as release clause met

Manchester City are closing in on a deal for River Plate wonderkid Claudio Echeverri. Fabrizio Romano has reported that the European champions are prepared to pay Echeverri’s release clause to seal the deal.

The transfer expert reported overnight that the treble winners have presented an offer of €25 million for the young playmaker. He further adds that the two clubs are also discussing payment terms on the deal. Furthermore, Romano reports that the deal will be done and Claudio Echeverri will stay on loan at River Plate.

With the deal for Echeverri nearing completion it means City will have beaten a host of clubs to the midfielder’s prized signature. Fabrizio Romano previously reported that Chelsea and Barcelona were interested in the wonderkids services. With River Plate and Manchester City close to agreeing a deal it means that the world champions can now focus their attention elsewhere in the January transfer window.

David Ornstein of the Athletic has reported that it is likely to be a quiet window in January for City. With the club also securing the signing of Leeds starlet Finlay Gorman as reported by Fabrizio Romano the champions have focused on elite youth signings.

With Gorman and Echeverri both due to arrive it will be two more elite young prospects added to the City academy. The City academy is now becoming the envy of Europe given the quality of young talent arriving at the club.
