Manchester City are on the brink of closing a deal for River Plate sensation Claudio Echeverri. A report overnight indicates a deal between the two clubs is getting close to being completed as the clubs have continued negotiations over the talented young midfielder.
Rob Dawson reports for ESPN that the European champions are close to a deal with River Plate for Echeverri. He adds that the two clubs have held formal talks for the young playmaker. Furthermore, Dawson adds that if a deal is reached the wonderkid will be loaned back to River Plate. He also adds that the loan deal will be a similar one to the deal that saw Julian Alvarez stay at River Plate.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports that a deal is still in progress between the two clubs. He adds that a deal isn’t complete yet but is on the right track.

It would appear that a deal being completed for Echeverri is only a matter of time. Romano previously reported that a deal was in the final stages of negotiations on Christmas Day.
With a deal getting close to being agreed it would wrap up a deal for one of football’s brightest young prospects. The thought of Echeverri joining Manchester City’s academy is a mouth-watering proposition.
Given Manchester City’s success with Argentinian players, Echeverri would be joining a successful list of Argentinian players who have played at the club. Pablo Zabaleta, Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero, Martin Demichelis and Julian Alvarez have all starred at City. The hope would be that Echeverri can follow in their footsteps.
