Will Kevin De Bruyne finally return for City against Everton?

With Manchester City back in Premier League action on Wednesday evening will we see the return of Kevin De Bruyne? City’s talisman has been out since the opening day of the season with a hamstring injury but returned to training last week at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Images shared on the Manchester City X account gave a promising picture of De Bruyne’s recovery. With City in action on Wednesday evening it would mean that the Belgian international has had a week and a half of training under his belt before the trip to Goodison Park.

Given De Bruyne has been out for the best part of 5 months he may need more training under his belt before his return. After such a long lay off it would appear to be a safer bet for Manchester City to err on the side of caution with the midfielder. Also, given the expertise of the treble winner’s medical staff, it would be a safe statement to say no risks will be taken regarding De Bruyne. A player of his importance will play a key role in the second half of the season so City likely won’t play their inspirational midfielder until he’s ready.

Nevertheless, it is a huge boost to Pep Guardiola’s side to have their star midfielder back in the first team set-up. With his return now imminent after such a long lay off playing it safe with Kevin De Bruyne will only benefit the champions. Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic showed they’re ready to step up during City’s FIFA Club World Cup win. City can afford to play it safe with their star midfielder’s return.
