City captain Kyle Walker responds to the critics to lead City to glory

Manchester City captain Kyle Walker put in an emphatic response to his critics during Manchester City’s FIFA Club World Cup triumph. Speaking with talkSPORT before the final Walker spoke of how he uses the criticism from fans and the media as fire to keep motivated. He put in an inspired display in City’s 4-nil win over Fluminense to lead his side to yet another trophy.

Tasked with his usual position at right-back in the final Walker didn’t put a foot wrong. He was strong at the back and used his pace to prevent any surge from the Copa Libertadores champions down their left-hand side. Showing that his pace hadn’t faded it was a typical Kyle Walker performance. After a patchy run of form of late, it was a positive sign for Pep Guardiola’s side to see the City captain back to his best.

It was a welcome sight to see Walker put in the type of display that has become the norm during his time at Manchester City. The England international is a key piece of Pep Guardiola’s team and when he’s at his best usually the team follows. After Ilkay Gundogan’s departure and Kevin De Bruyne’s injury, Walker has been made captain. He led City superbly in Saudi Arabia hopefully, he can bring the same form to City’s next Premier League match against Everton.

If the full-back has put his rough patch behind him it can only help the treble winners. Kyle Walker responded to the critics at the FIFA Club World Cup. With City facing a crunch second half of the season if he is back to his best it will be to Manchester City’s benefit.
