Manchester City set their sights on Claudio Echeverri as race for the youngster heats up

Manchester City have set their sights on landing Argentinian wonderkid Claudio Echeverri. The River Plate sensation starred for Argentina at the recent Under-17 FIFA World Club and has become a target for a host of big clubs in Europe.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that the World Champions are in talks with River Plate over Echeverri. Romano adds that Chelsea are also keen on signing the youngster. Furthermore, he also reports that Barcelona rate the Argentinian youngster but face difficulty signing the youngster due to FFP issues.

Echeverri rose to prominence during the recent FIFA Under-17 World Cup. His performances at the tournament drew comparisons with Lionel Messi. The highlight of his performances was his hat-trick in Argentina’s 3-nil win over Brazil. It was this performance added to his obvious talent and potential that put him firmly on the radar of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Manchester City have attempted to get in ahead of their rivals for Echeverri. The treble winners have had a good relationship previously with River Plate after signing Julian Alvarez from the Argentinian club. The World Cup winner was signed by City in January 2022 then loaned back to River Plate. He joined Manchester City in July of 2022.

Tom Weber reports for footballtransfers.com that the River Plate youngster has announced his intention to leave the club. With the youngster turning 18 in January he will be free to move to Europe with Manchester City attempting to secure his signature.
