They are seeking to become the first English club to hold the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup if they can beat Copa Libertadores champions. It will be no easy game for City with the Brazilian side keen to create history for themselves.
The contest will see two sides take each other on with vastly different playing styles. Pep Guardiola and Fernando Diniz have contrasting tactical ideas which will make for an enthralling spectacle. The battle on the dugout will be an entertaining subplot of what promises to be an enthralling encounter.
As for the game itself, it looms as a battle in midfield. With Rodri, Bernardo, Kovacic, Matheus Nunes and Foden potentially in midfield City will back their men to get the job done. Fluminense possess their own midfield weapons. Andre, Ganso and Felipe Melo are all elite midfielders in their own right. It could be a fascinating contest in the centre of the pitch.
The FIFA Club World Cup does have its detractors. The game provides an opportunity for the European champions to face off against the Copa Libertadores winners. It does feel that the game hasn’t had the coverage it deserves in the lead-up. Given that Fluminense were compared to a Soccer Aid side in the build-up it does feel that they’ve been disrespected. If Liverpool, United or Arsenal were playing would the coverage be the same?
