Esteemed Kompany host Steven Mcinerney is joined by Ahsan Naeem of the 93.20 podcast to look at the state of City’s season following last weekend’s 2-all draw with Crystal Palace.
This season so far has seen injuries and mistakes plague the treble winners. It has been an unusual sight to see City make so many mistakes this season. It is a change from the high levels of performance we have become accustomed to witnessing from Pep Guardiola’s side. Ahsan and Steven look at when do the players take responsibility for the errors. It can’t be all laid at Pep Guardiola’s feet and at some point, the players have to step up and say enough is enough.
On the injury front key players have missed games due to injury for the champions. Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku, John Stones, Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes and Nathan Ake have all missed multiple games with injury. The injuries have cost Manchester City their rhythm at key times. But there does appear to be relief in sight for City. Stones, Kovacic, Nunes and Ake have returned and Erling Haaland is due to resume training shortly. Jeremy Doku is a couple of weeks away from returning from the injury he picked up against Tottenham. Speaking of players returning from injury there is a big one on the horizon.
Kevin De Bruyne has returned to first-team training for the treble winners. His return will be a massive boost for City and their season. Ahsan believes the layoff may be a blessing in disguise for De Bruyne. After playing so much football the last few years the break may refresh and recharge the midfielder.
