Is managing England the next move for Pep Guardiola after Manchester City spell?

Though it is a thought no one associated with Manchester City wants to contemplate, eventually Pep Guardiola will depart the club. His legacy of success is long secured and his mark on the club will be ever-lasting. But is a spell as England manager on the cards for Guardiola once he does call time on his Manchester City career?

Reports from Spain which were relayed by Football365 indicate that Pep Guardiola has been offered the England job. They add that England may look to part ways with Gareth Southgate following next year’s European Championships. Furthermore, they add that Guardiola wants to remain in Europe. In addition, they report that the City manager and his family feel. at home living in England.

It remains to be seen if there is any truth to the report emerging from Spain. It has long been thought that Guardiola would like to try his hand at international management. In an interview in 2021 shared by Eurosport, he spoke of his intention to manage a national side once he finishes his time at Manchester City. He said: “The next step will be a national team if the opportunity presents itself. I must take a break after seven years (at Manchester City). I’d need to stop and look, learn from other coaches and then maybe take that path. I would like to coach in a European Championship, a Copa America, a World Cup.”

Guardiola taking charge of England would be a dream signing for the English FA and England fans. With his experience in England and the talented squad at his disposal, the possibilities are endless for what he could achieve.

As it stands Guardiola is contracted with City until the end of next season and focused on the FIFA Club World Cup.
