Would a loan move aid the development of a young Manchester City full-back?

As the January transfer window approaches would a loan move benefit Manchester City’s young full-back, Sergio Gomez? The Spanish youth international has only featured 7 times so far this season for the European champions and has been linked with a loan move in January.

Turkish TV Station A Haber, relayed by Gazete Vatan reports that Turkish giants Galatasaray are interested in a loan deal for the Manchester City youngster. They add that Galatasaray are keen to strengthen their squad with an eye on winning this year’s Europa League. Furthermore, they report that Galatasaray may shift their attention to City’s talented young wide-man if they can’t complete a permanent deal for Angelino.

There is no doubt that Sergio Gomez has the talent to succeed at the highest level. He has been starved of opportunity during his time at City as he learns his craft. Gomez also missed 4 games this season with an injury. Transfermarkt.com reported the injury as a knock. The young full-back can also play in midfield or on a wing meaning his versatility is also a coveted trait. He starred at last summer’s UEFA under-21 European championships for Spain as they finished runners-up to England. He was joint top scorer at the tournament with 3 goals.

It may be that a loan move may be the best thing for Gomez’s young career. He has the potential to make it at City but does appear to need minutes to aid his development. With the treble winners squad, a tough one to break into a loan spell could give him the opportunities he needs to further his development.

It remains to be seen if Manchester City will sanction a loan deal in January. Galatasaray’s interest in Sergio Gomez could become a story to watch for next month.
