Could Manchester City add another young Belgian to their ranks?

With the January transfer window around the corner could Manchester City add another young Belgian starlet to their ranks? After signing Jeremy Doku in the summer from Rennes the champions have been linked with a move for another Belgian wonderkid.

Manchester City have previously been linked with a move for Arthur Vermeeren from Royal Antwerp. The young Belgian midfielder has caught the eye with some sparkling performances this season. Jamie Spencer and Graeme Bailey reported in October for 90min.com that City had previously enquired about the talented youngster. They add that Tottenham and Arsenal were also interested in the young Belgian international.

Arthur Vermeeren plays primarily in the centre of midfield. His ability to play across multiple positions in midfield would be viewed as an asset by the Manchester City hierarchy. Vermeeren can play as a defensive midfielder or as a number 8, such is the skill and tactical awareness he possesses. He has impressed this season during Royal Antwerp’s UEFA Champions League campaign this season. A more detailed analysis of the type of player Vermeeren is and what he could bring to the European champions can be found here at thescoutingapp.com.

The treble winners could be in the market for a midfielder in January. With Kalvin Phillips appearing set to depart the club Pep Guardiola’s squad would appear a midfielder short. Arthur Vermeeren could be the ideal candidate to slot into the City squad. Given his age and potential, he ticks the necessary boxes as a player the European champions generally target.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also reported that Vermeeren is likely to leave Royal Antwerp at some point in 2024.

With this in mind Manchester City could be looking to add another young Belgian starlet to their ranks in the January transfer window.
