Pep Guardiola and Ederson nominated for prestigious FIFA Best Awards

Pep Guardiola and Ederson have both earnt nominations for the FIFA Best Awards. The City pair have each been nominated in the respective categories of the Best Men’s Coach for Pep Guardiola and Ederson as the Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper award.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola earnt his nomination after last season’s treble winning campaign from his side. It was a stunning season from Guardiola’s side and cemented his position as one of the premier managers in word football. He also became the first manager to win two domestic trebles after achieving the feat with Barcelona in 2009.

Last season’s success saw the City manager showcase yet another tactical innovation. His use of John Stones as a defender/midfielder gave his side more control in midfield. It was the control Manchester City had that formed the foundation of last season’s treble success. The prime example of this was Manchester City’s resounding 4-nil win over Real Madrid at the Etihad in UEFA Champions League semi final second leg.

Pep Guardiola is nominated for the FIFA Best Men’s Coach award with Simone Inzaghi and Luciano Spalleti.

Ederson has been nominated for the Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper award. It is a fine reward for the Brazilian keepers consistency since he arrived at Manchester City from Benfica.

City’s shot-stopper was one of the best keepers in world football over the past 12 months. His performance in City’s 1-nil win over Inter Milan helped his team secure their maiden UEFA Champions League crown. Ederson made a string of fine saves to preserve City’s clean sheet in a tense final in Istanbul.

The other nominees for the FIFA Best Men’s Goalkeeper award are Thibaut Courtois and Yassine Bounou.
