Jack Grealish silences the critics with a match-winning moment

Manchester City winger Jack Grealish has silenced his critics with the match-winning goal during his team’s 2-1 win over Luton Town at Kenilworth Road. With Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku out due to injury the treble winners needed someone to step up. It was Bernardo Silva and Grealish who provided the goals as City returned to winning ways.

Graeme Souness speaking on Talksport had fierce criticism for the City winger. He believes that the England international takes too many touches when on the ball and needed to step up for his side. Souness made the observation following City’s 3-all with Tottenham a week ago.

But the former Aston Villa winger responded to the former England international claim with a match-winning moment yesterday. After Bernardo Silva had fired his side level in the 62nd minute, Grealish was on hand to give his side the lead. The winger tapped in what would turn out to be the winner following some great play by Julian Alvarez. It was the 50th goal of the winger’s career and an important one for his side.

With two goals in his last two appearances, Jack Grealish is starting to make an impact on the scoresheet. His impact on the treble winners isn’t in dispute given his importance to Pep Guardiola’s side. If Grealish starts scoring with more regularity it will add another weapon to his game. After a slow start to the season, the winger is now beginning to find his groove just when his team needed him most.

Speaking post-game Grealish was happy to see his team return to winning ways. He said: “We knew we had to keep calm today and I’m buzzing to get back to winning ways.

With Grealish beginning to return to his best form it will be a boost for Pep Guardiola’s side. Manchester City will be hoping the win kickstarts the second half of their season following their 4 game-winless run in the Premier League which ended with yesterday’s victory over Luton Town.
