Rico Lewis is backing his Manchester City teammates to get their side out of their current run of bad form. The European champions are winless in their last four Premier League and face Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Sunday as they look to get back to winning ways.
Wednesday night’s 1-nil defeat to Aston Villa was Pep Guardiola’s side’s worst performance for some time. They were beaten all over the pitch as Unai Emery’s side dominated the champions. It was a rare sight to see City beaten so thoroughly and something they need to rebound quickly from.
Speaking with mancity.com Rico Lewis believes the City squad have the experience and talent to bounce back quickly. He said: “The players in that dressing room are world-class and they know how to get out of these things. They’ve been in tough periods before, tougher than this.”
The City youngster added: “They’ll know more than me how to get out of these situations. I’m sure the manager and the players will not let this carry on in the near future and we’ll focus on what we can control which is the next game against Luton.”
Manchester City don’t have much time to lick their wounds or feel sorry for themselves. Sunday’s game at Kenilworth Road will provide a different challenge for the treble winners. After consecutive Premier League games against top sides Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Aston Villa Pep Guardiola’s side will now face a side fighting for their Premier League survival. Luton was unlucky to go down 4-3 to Arsenal in midweek and will be no pushovers at home.
With Rico Lewis backing his teammates to respond to Wednesday night’s defeat they will be expected to provide a better performance than the one we saw at Villa Park.
