Will Manchester City find another quality player in a Club Brugge wing-back?

As the January transfer window approaches Manchester City have been linked with a move for Club Brugge wing-back Tajon Buchanan. Given Manchester City’s history of finding quality young players like Julian Alvarez could they find another in the Canadian international?

Italian media outlet TV Play has reported on Manchester City’s interest in the youngster. They also report that Pep Guardiola has spoken to the player in regards to a potential move to the Etihad.

Tajon Buchanan is a versatile young player who can play in a variety of roles. He has primarily played as a wing-back for Club Brugge this season. He can also slot into a midfield role when required. For MLS side New England, he featured primarily as a midfielder. Such versatility would make him a useful addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad. The majority of the Manchester City squad can play in a variety of roles. It is a necessary trait given the subtle tactical shifts Pep Guardiola deploys.

As a player, the Canadian international has immense dribbling ability. This coupled with his range of passing would make him a weapon in the Manchester City set-up. With Club Brugge a possession-based team, similar to Manchester City it has allowed Buchanan to shine. Across this season he had made 19 appearances scoring 3 goals and adding 4 assists. Another quick, technical and skilful player would be a welcome addition to the European champions squad.

While it is only a reported link at this stage of Tajon Buchanan to Manchester City he does appear to be a player who could slot into Pep Guardiola’s squad. His versatility, potential and ability could be harnessed by the City manager. With Kyle Walker also getting on his years he may also be an option to replace the City captain when the time comes.
