Pep Guardiola has declared that John Stones is ready to play for Manchester City tomorrow night against Aston Villa. The England international hasn’t featured for the Premier League champions since being substituted at half-time of City’s 3-nil over Young Boys in early November. With Rodri and Jack Grealish both unavailable due to suspension Stones return will be a boost for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Speaking before Manchester City clashes with Unai Emery’s side the City manager had positive news on Stones. Pep told the media: “He was ready for the last game, and he’s ready now.” Pep also told the media that Stones may be an option to replace the suspended Rodri. He also said that Manuel Akanji or Nathan Ake could help cover the loss of Rodri. He added: “John can play there, yeah. Akanji as well, and Ake.”
Pep Guardiola also told the media that he’d wait until he speaks with the club doctor about Jeremy Doku’s availability. The Belgian winger was substituted just after half-time of City’s 3-all draw with Tottenham with an injury concern. The City boss said he’d wait until after training to see if Doku comes up in time for the game. He said: “As for Doku, again, we have training this afternoon. I will talk with the doctors and see after.”
John Stones being ready for Wednesday night’s game at Villa Park will be a welcome boost for the treble winners. He has been sorely missed by Manchester City and his return could help fill the void left by Rodri’s one-game suspension. It does appear that Doku’s availability won’t be known until the team sheet is released before kick-off.
