Pep Guardiola has declared that Manchester City will win the Premier League season. The City manager made the bold declaration during his pre-game press conference before his side takes on Aston Villa tomorrow night at Villa Park.
It appears that Guardiola has begun the mind games as his side sits third in the Premier League three points behind league leaders Arsenal. His declaration could also be interpreted as a motivational tactic to spark his side into form after draws in their past three Premier League games.
Guardiola made the statement during his pre-game press conference. He told the media: “My feeling today is that we are going to win the Premier League. If you ask me, we are going to win the Premier League. If we play at the level we did against Liverpool and Tottenham, we are going to win it again. The people don’t believe it already after three draws, but we are going to do it again, knowing that it is not easy.”
Judging by Pep Guardiola’s comments it appears that he has begun the mind games as the season approaches the midway point. With his side struggling for their best form, his belief in his squad may spark them back into life. They currently sit third in the Premier League table behind Arsenal and Liverpool. But with only three points separating the top three the sooner City return to their best, they will be able to keep the pressure on the top two.
Being the great manager he is, Guardiola knows when to make a bold declaration about his side. He would be well aware they’ve been below their best. His hope would be by sharing his belief in his side it will flow onto his players who appear to need a spark. By declaring that they will win the Premier League it may be exactly what the players need to hear. Only time will tell if that’s the case.
Now that Pep Guardiola appears to have begun the mind games it will be something to watch for if his side responds tomorrow night against Aston Villa.
