Is a left-back in Manchester City’s future transfer plans?

Is a left-back in Manchester City’s future transfer plans? After Fabrizio Romano reported via his exclusive Kick channel that the European champions sent scouts to watch Alphonso Davies recently, reports have surfaced of the treble winners having an interest in Barcelona full-back Alejandro Balde.

Spanish publication Fichajes has reported that Manchester City are monitoring Balde. They further report that Bayern Munich and Chelsea have an interest in the full-back. Furthermore, they add that Barcelona have attempted to negotiate a new contract for the young defender, but are pessimistic of a new deal being agreed. They also add that Balde’s agent Jorge Mendes is handling the youngster’s contract negotiations.

With Fabrizio Romano and now Fichajes reporting on City’s interest in left-backs it may be a position they are looking to improve. So far this season Nathan Ake and Josko Gvardiol have played on the left of defence. Both players are more than capable of playing the role such is their versatility. Neither player has let Pep Guardiola down when they play at left-back. Sergio Gomez is another player who can play the position but he seems more suited to a wing.

Manchester City are always looking to strengthen their squad in the transfer market. Reports indicate that a new left-back may be a position they look to reinforce. With Alphonso Davies and now Alejandro Balde linked to the champions it appears they will only target elite younger players for the position.

It may become a story to watch for in the summer transfer window if Balde and Barcelona can’t come to terms on a new contract for the young Spaniard.
