Manchester City would face stiff competition to sign German ace Florian Wirtz. The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder has become one of the most sought-after players in Europe off the back of his strong form for the Bundesliga leaders. The European champions were linked with a move for Wirtz previously as reported by Spanish publication Sport.
German transfer guru Christian Falk has reported in his daily briefing column that Wirtz would like to stay in the Bundesliga. Falk adds that the German international is keen to take the next step in his career while remaining in Germany. Wirtz believes he may not be ready to play in the Premier League. Furthermore, Falk reports that Bayern Munich have an interest in signing the talented midfielder. It is further reported by Falk that Leverkusen’s asking price of €100-120 million may price Bayern out of any move for Wirtz. With the young star contracted to Leverkusen until the summer of 2027, the Bundesliga leaders will command a sizable fee for Wirtz.
The German international has starred so far this season. He has helped Xabi Alonso’s side to an unbeaten start to their Bundesliga campaign. This has put Wirtz on the radar of a host of big clubs across Europe.
Graeme Bailey and Sean Walsh had previously reported for 90min.com that Manchester City sent scouts to watch Wirtz in early November against Hoffenheim. Wirtz scored in a 3-2 win for Leverkusen. PSG and Juventus also had scouts present at the same game Bailey and Walsh added to their report.
The battle for the signature of Florian Wirtz could heat up over the coming months. There will be no shortage of suitors for the Leverkusen star. His next move may be the biggest transfer story of next summer’s transfer window.
