Steven Mcinerney’s match preview: Manchester City vs RB Leipzig

Enjoy Steven Mcinerney’s preview of Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League Group G clash with RB Leipzig. A draw at the Etihad will be enough for Pep Guardiola’s side to qualify from the group stage as winners of their group.

With City already qualified and the squad being hit by injuries will Oscar Bobb and Rico Lewis start? Pep Guardiola told the media following City’s draw with Liverpool that Lewis will likely start against RB Leipzig. He said: “Rico (Lewis) is ready, Rico can play in five positions, so we’re going to use him I’m pretty sure on Tuesday.” Lewis put in a man-of-the-match display against the Bundesliga side in the reverse fixture between the two sides. He also shone in his debut for England so Lewis will be ready if called upon.

Oscar Bobb has impressed during his limited appearances so far this season. His dribbling and technical ability have been a stand out. He also impressed in his only start against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup. With City’s squad still missing several players due to injury, it may be the perfect chance for the young duo to start.

Pep Guardiola told the media pre-game that he isn’t expecting any of City’s injured players to return just yet. City have several players currently out with injury. He did share some positive news with John Stones, Jack Grealish and Mateo Kovacic back in training. The game may come too soon for the trio to feature.
