Manchester City unveil statue to commemorate iconic trio

Manchester City have unveiled a statue in honour of the contributions of Colin Bell, Francis Lee and Mike Summerbee to the club. The trio left a lasting legacy during their combined 30 years of playing service to the club. The statue unveiled today is a fitting tribute to three of Manchester City’s greatest-ever players.

City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak told mancity.com that the statue is a fitting tribute to the legacy Bell, Lee and Summerbee left at Manchester City. He told mancity.com: “This statue honours three players who are unquestionably City legends and have deservedly earned a special place in the history of the Club and hearts of the whole City family.

The statue was designed by renowned sculptor David Williams-Ellis. It is 4 metres wide and stands almost 4.5 metres tall. It stands on the west side of the Etihad Stadium near the Colin Bell stand. Its unveiling follows on from tributes to modern-day Manchester City legends Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and David Silva. The statues pay a fitting tribute to two eras of the club’s success.

Pep Guardiola said the statue spoke volumes about the legacy Bell, Summerbee and Lee left at the club. He was also proud of how Manchester City have honoured the trio. He said: “Again, it shows how good this club is The history and what they did – three legendary, unbelievable persons.”

The legacy left by Colin Bell, Mike Summerbee and Francis Lee now has a magnificent permanent tribute for City fans to celebrate.
