Kevin De Bruyne is aiming to be back for Manchester City in the New Year

Kevin De Bruyne has given an update on when he is expected to return from injury. The Manchester City midfielder is currently recovering from hamstring surgery. He was injured in the early stages of Manchester City’s 3-nil win over Burnley on the opening day of the Premier League season.

Speaking with SkySports at the Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix De Buyne said his recovery was going well and he was aiming to be back after the New Year. He told SkySports: “It’s going well (his recovery), it’s getting along. I’ve still got a little bit to go but we’re getting there. I hope for something closely after New Year if everything goes well.

While Manchester City have started the season well, they have missed their inspirational playmaker. His presence was missed in Saturday’s draw with Liverpool. Julian Alvarez has become a regular starter in De Bruyne’s absence. While the Argentinian has performed well, it is no easy feat to fill Kevin De Bruyne’s shoes. He contributed to 41 goals (goals and assists combined) last season which further highlights his importance to Pep Guardiola and the European champions.

After being out since the opening day of the season due to injury De Bruyne’s return date is edging closer. With the season now hitting the end of November it could only be just over a month before he returns. The return of Kevin De Bruyne would be a welcome boost for Manchester City in the second half of the season.
