Manchester City Opposition Watch: Liverpool

Following the international break, Manchester City return to Premier League action this Saturday. Up next for the European champions is Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side. A massive encounter awaits between the two rivals. Up next in Manchester City opposition watch is Liverpool.

The Reds will head to the Etihad sitting second in the Premier League. Jurgen Klopp’s side look rejuvenated for this season as they look to challenge for the Premier League title. They saw a summer overhaul in the transfer market. Club stalwarts Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho all departed the club in the summer. They were replaced by Alexis MacAllister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch all arrived in the summer. The new signings have refreshed the Liverpool midfield after last season’s disappointing campaign.

On the injury front, Liverpool do appear to have had some good news before their trip to Manchester. Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate have all trained ahead of Saturday’s fixture. They all missed Liverpool’s 3-nil win over Brentford before the international break. Andy Robertson, Thiago and Stefan Bajčetić are all out of the clash with the European champions.

Liverpool have resembled the side that pushed Manchester City in previous seasons. Up front Mo Salah looms as the danger man for Jurgen Klopp’s side. He has scored 11 goals in 18 appearances against Pep Guardiola’s side. He is also the second-leading scorer in the Premier League with 10. Erling Haaland leads the way with 13 so far this season. Another player who could cause the champions issues is Darwin Nunez. He will head to the Etihad full of confidence after a brace for Uruguay in their win over Bolivia.

A possible classic contest awaits on Saturday at the Etihad between the two rivals.
