Rico Lewis was named man-of-the-match in his England debut for his performance during their 1-all draw with North Macedonia. Teammates Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Kyle Walker also started for Gareth Southgate’s side as City had four players in the starting eleven. Kyle Walker was named as captain for England for the first time in his career in another milestone in his glittering career.

After consultation with VAR, a penalty was awarded to the hosts. Jordan Pickford saved Ensi Bardhi’s spot-kick but the rebound landed at the North Macedonian’s feet and he tapped in the rebound. North Macedonia went into the interval with a 1-nil lead after a frustrating half for Gareth Southgate’s side.
Gareth Southgate’s side came out with more intent to begin the second half. They were rewarded in the 59th minute as a Phil Foden corner was headed into his own net by Jani Atanasov. England went in search of a winner but it wasn’t to be. North Macedonia dug in to see the game end 1-all.
Rico Lewis, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Kyle Walker all performed well in England’s disappointing draw. Kalvin Phillips came on in the 84th minute for a brief cameo late on.
