Bernardo Silva will attempt to persuade young starlet to choose Manchester City over United

Bernardo Silva has made it clear that he will attempt to persuade Benfica starlet Joao Neves to choose Manchester City over rivals Manchester United. Graeme Bailey and Sean Walsh of 90min.com have previously reported that Manchester City is leading the race for the youngster’s signature. Phil Haigh of metro.co.uk has reported that Manchester United have sent scouts to monitor the talented Portuguese midfielder.

The Manchester City midfielder was speaking at a gala event in Lisbon when he was asked about Joao Neves making it in the Premier League. He answered: “Joao Neves in the Premier League? I think that players with quality can play in any championship. I see him very focused on his club, which is the most important thing at the moment, a very young player but with a very promising future ahead of him.”

Bernardo Silva also told the event that he would attempt to help his club sign Neves. He added: “For City instead of United? If I can, I will pull strings to Joao Neves to go to Man City. I’d like to see João joining City instead of Man United, of course.”

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Benfica have no intention to sell their young prodigy this January. He further reports that the Portuguese international has a €120 million release clause in his contract with the Portuguese giants.

The young midfielder has risen to prominence so far this season. Joao Neves has made 18 appearances in all competitions for Benfica. His technical ability, poise and range of passing have caught the eye in his performances so far this season.

Any potential sales pitch from Bernardo Silva may have to wait until the summer with the Portuguese side determined to hold onto their prized asset in January.
