Esteemed Kompany host Steven Mcinerney makes the case for Leroy Sane to return to Manchester City in the video below. A report from Christian Falk reporting for Bild earlier this week had linked City with making a move for the former City winger.
Since leaving the Etihad for Bayern Munich four years ago, there has always been a section of fans that have wanted Sane to return. After a successful first spell at the treble winners, the German international’s game has matured at the Bundesliga champions. He has made 151 appearances for Bayern in all competitions and added 47 goals and 44 assists since departing City. This season has seen Sane take his game up another level with 9 goals and 7 assists in 18 games in all competitions.
The thought of Leroy Sane joining Pep Guardiola’s side is a tantalising one. Besides the romantic side of a potential homecoming, his strengths would be a welcome addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad. His pace and technical ability down City’s left-hand side would terrify opposing defenders. Added to Jeremy Doku and Erling Haaland’s pace it would give City a different dimension in attack.
Sane’s contract with Bayern Munich expires in 2025. The German winger was asked about his contract situation before Germany’s friendly against Turkiye. He wasn’t worried about his contract as he told the media: “I haven’t given it any thought. The club wants to have discussions but at the moment I want to concentrate on the season. Bayern will be my first point of contract, everything else will take care of itself.”
