Norway team doctor Ola Sand provides an update on Erling Haaland

Team doctor for Norway Ola Sand has provided an injury update on Erling Haaland. City’s number 9 went down shortly after coming on in Norway’s 2-nil friendly win over the Faroe Islands.

Speaking post game Sand told the media: “It was much of the same that happened against Bournemouth a week and a half ago. He has had it before too. He gets a slight twist in his ankle, where he is a bit vulnerable. It hurts a lot right away, and then it goes away pretty quickly.”

Sand added that Norway had already spoken to Manchester City adding: “Now he will receive some treatment, then there will be peace and rest and then we will see how he is tomorrow morning. We have already spoken to City. Erling has spoken to both City and (chief doctor) Mario Pafundi already.”

The news of Haaland possibly picking up a recurrence of the ankle injury will cause Manchester City concern. Before the internationals kicked off there had been several fresh injury concerns for Pep Guardiola’s side. Mateo Kovacic, Nathan Ake, Ederson and Matheus Nunes all withdrew from national duty due to fitness concerns. Rodri was also rested for Spain in their 3-1 win over Cyprus.

With John Stones, Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Gomez currently sidelined it is becoming a busy treatment room for the treble winners. With Liverpool up next in a top of the Premier League clash up next City will be hoping for some positive news on the injury front.

All eyes will turn to Norway’s upcoming fixture against Scotland to see if Erling Haaland features. Given Norway team doctor Ola Sand’s update, it gives the impression that the injury may not be too serious.
