Esteemed Kompany host Steven Mcinerney looks at reports that Manchester City are keen to sign both Florian Wirtz and Lucas Paqueta. The European champions have been reported to have an interest in both players, but could they sign both?
Sean Walsh and Graeme Bailey of 90min previously reported that the European champions had sent scouts to watch Wirtz. The German playmaker has become one of the most sought-after players in Europe. His form for Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen has seen him become a target for Manchester City and a host of other clubs.
Jacque Talbot of footballtransfers.com reported that Manchester City still has an interest in signing Lucas Paqueta. The Brazilian international was heavily linked to Pep Guardiola’s side in the summer but the move collapsed due to a betting investigation into Paqueta.
Steven Mcinerney dissects whether Manchester City could bring both to the Etihad. Lucas Paqueta has been one of the form midfielders in the Premier League for West Ham. The Brazilian midfielder can play all across midfield and his skillset seems ready-made for Pep Guardiola’s side. Fabrizio Romano has previously reported that an £85 million release clause in Paqueta’s contract becomes active in June 2024. A deal for the Brazilian seems an easy one to complete if City do intend to sign the midfielder.
Florian Wirtz has excelled this season for Xabi Alonso’s side. The attacking midfielder is one of the most exciting young talents in Europe. Spanish publication Sport has reported that Leverkusen have set an asking price of £85 million for Wirtz. The midfielder fits the bill of a typical Manchester City signing due to his age and potential.
