Who could replace Kyle Walker for Manchester City when the time comes?

As Kyle Walker gets closer to the end of his career than the beginning, the time will come to look at who could replace the City captain at right-back. Walker has been outstanding so far this season so it isn’t an urgent need for the treble winners. There will however be a time when the England international will need to be replaced in the City squad. Here are two possible candidates to replace Walker in time.

Manchester City do have one candidate currently out on loan to potentially step into the right-back role. Yan Couto has shone so far this season for surprise La Liga leaders Girona. The Brazilian full-back has made 13 appearances for Girona this season contributing one goal and three assists. Couto also earned his first international cap with Brazil off the back of his strong form for Girona. The youngster has served a sizable apprenticeship with loan spells at SC Braga and Girona since arriving at Manchester City. He may be presented with a chance to impress at City during the next pre-season if his impressive form continues.

The transfer market may also present an opportunity for the treble winners to replace Kyle Walker. Graeme Bailey and Tom Gott report for 90min.com that Manchester City have a long-held interest in the Chelsea captain. They add that Real Madrid also maintain an interest in signing the 23-year-old.

As a player, Reece James could be the ideal replacement for Kyle Walker. James has similar attributes to the City full-back and has experience at the highest level to be capable of replacing Walker. However, signing a rivals captain may make any move for the England international difficult to complete.

With Kyle Walker’s strong form this season there isn’t an urgent need to replace the full back. But a time will come when he will need to be replaced in the near future.
