Manchester City Opposition Watch: Young Boys

Fresh off the back of a 6-1 win over Bournemouth Manchester City will next be in action in the UEFA Champions League. Up next in opposition watch is Young Boys who City faced in matchday three of the UEFA Champions League group stage.

The European champions saw off the Swiss champions 3-1 in their previous encounter. A brace from Erling Haaland and a goal from Manuel Akanji was enough to see off a spirited Young Boys outfit. It will be a different challenge for the Swiss side to face the treble winners at the Etihad.

Since falling to City at the Wankdorf Stadium Young Boys are unbeaten in three games. They’ve had two wins and a draw following the defeat to the treble winners. They defeated Winterthur 4-1 at the weekend in Swiss Super League action. Before that, they defeated Rapperswil 2-0 in the Swiss Cup round of 16. They’ll head to the Etihad sitting top of the Swiss Super League with a one-point lead over FC Zurich with a game in hand on their nearest challenger.

On the injury front Young Boys currently have two players who will miss the return clash with Manchester City. Lukasz Lakomy is out until late November with a foot injury. Kastriot Imeri is out for the season with a knee injury for the Swiss champions.

For the Swiss champions, their main threat will be on the counter against the European champions. Meschack Elia scored a wonderful goal at the Wankdorf Stadium to equalise for Young Boys. His pace in the break will be something for City to keep an eye out for.

The Swiss side gave Pep Guardiola’s men a tough contest at home and will be hoping to do the same at the Etihad.
