As this season has progressed it is clear to all that Bernardo Silva has taken his game to a new level. With Ilkay Gundogan departing the club, and Kevin De Bruyne out with a long term injury City needed someone to fill the void. So far this season Bernardo has risen to the challenge.
Before this season began the Portuguese midfielder was one of the European champion’s most important players. His value to Pep Guardiola’s side is such that it can’t be measured. Whether it’s out wide on the right, in central midfield or filling in at left-back Bernardo can always be relied upon by his side.
The 23/24 season has seen Bernardo Silva take his game to another level. He has been challenged by Pep Guardiola to score more goals and he answered the challenge with a brace in the 6-1 win over Bournemouth. The two goals were beautiful finishes by the midfielder. The first was a lovely side-foot finish after Jeremy Doku tormented Chris Mepham to tee him up. His second goal was a delicate chip after being played through again by Doku. Guardiola compared Bernardo’s second goal to a goal Lionel Messi would score, such was the quality of the finish.
Pep Guardiola said after the Manchester derby victory that the Portuguese international was one of the best players he’s ever trained. It’s high praise for the midfielder considering the plethora of talent Pep has managed.
Manchester City needed someone to step up with Gundogan’s departure and De Bruyne’s injury. It’s no surprise that it has been Bernardo Silva to rise to the occasion. He’s never let the club down during his time at the Etihad. He can always be relied upon when the treble winners need him most.
