Manchester City will be looking to continue their dominance at the Etihad against Bournemouth. The treble winners haven’t lost a game at the Etihad in 2023. They have currently won 21 consecutive games in all competitions at home. The 21 consecutive wins at is a record for a Premier League club. The last time City dropped points at home was against Brentford in December last year.
Pep Guardiola was asked about the significance of City’s domination at home. He told the media he pays no attention to the record, or how many games at home they’ve won consecutively. He said he was more focused on Bournemouth: “I don’t think about these milestones. If it happens, it happens. Try to do what we have to do to win the games. I didn’t know it, and I’m not going to tell to the players. Normally when you say it to the players, and after we forget the focus, and the focus is Bournemouth, what we have to do to beat them.”
Guardiola did admit that his side feels more comfortable in front of the Manchester City fans. He added: “We feel comfortable for a long time at home, you’re right. With our people, we have our momentum, and I saw the team today really, really sharp in training. Sharp is the right word to use. We’re going to, since Brighton, we have won all the games, three games before the international break and we have an important week ahead of us and it starts tomorrow.”
Manchester have been irrepressible at home throughout 2023. They have swept all before then so far this year and will be looking to continue their strong home form against Bournemouth.
The Cherries did have their first win of the Premier League season last weekend against Burnley. They were also impressive against Liverpool in their 2-1 Carabao Cup defeat. They will be keen to upset City at the Etihad on Saturday.
