Erling Haaland wins Gerd Muller Trophy at Ballon d’Or ceremony

Erling Haaland has won the Gerd Muller Trophy at the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony. The award is given to the top striker in the past season for performances for both club and country.

The Gerd Muller Trophy caps a remarkable debut season at Manchester City for Erling Haaland. City’s number 9 scored a remarkable 52 goals in 53 appearances in his first season at the Etihad. His tally of 52 goals in a season is a Manchester City club record by any player in a single season.

Haaland also broke the Premier League record for goals in a season. He scored 36 goals in 35 Premier League games to set a new record.

The Gerd Muller Trophy caps a remarkable season for City’s Norwegian striker. He took home the UEFA Player of the Year, Premier League Player of the Season, Football Writer’s Association Player of the Season, Premier League Golden Boot, and UEFA Champions League top scorer on top of City securing the treble last season. He was also the runner-up to Lionel Messi in the Ballon d’Or.

Haaland was quick to thank his teammates for his success.
