Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva is determined to help Manchester City create history. The treble winners are chasing their fourth consecutive Premier League title this season. It’s a feat that hasn’t been achieved in Premier League history and one that would solidify Pep Guardiola’s side as arguably the greatest in the Premier League era. City face rivals Manchester United this weekend as their chase for history continues.
In an interview with John Richardson of the Mirror, the Portuguese playmaker spoke about City’s goals for this season. He told the Mirror that the chase for history is driving the treble winners. He said: “We heard that four titles in a row has never been done before so we want to try to do that. It is so tough every year. Especially when you remember that two of the titles were just a difference of one point and won in the last games.”
Creating history is something Pep Guardiola and his side have done with regularity in the past few years. They secured the treble last season and have also won the domestic quadruple in 2018/19. They remain the only side to complete the sweep of domestic competitions in one season.
Bernardo Silva also had a message for City’s rivals this season. He said the hunger remains after previous success. He said: “The quality is still here, the team is almost the same, so if the hunger levels are still the same the chances of us winning again are high.”
Achieving a feat that has never been done before is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Bernardo Silva and the City squad. If City does secure the Premier League title in season 23/24 their place in English football history will be secured.
