Fresh off a win at the weekend over Brighton in the Premier League Manchester City shift their focus to the UEFA Champions League. Up next is a trip to Switzerland to face Young Boys at the Wankdorf Stadium. The next opponent for Manchester City opposition watch is Swiss champions Young Boys.
The Swiss champions earned their place in this season’s UEFA Champions League by securing the Swiss Super League title convincingly. They clinched the title by 16 points from runners-up Servette as they romped away from the competition. They also won the Swiss Cup to make last season a memorable one for the Swiss side. Young Boys then eliminated Maccabi Haifa in the Qualifying phase over two legs. A comfortable 3-nil win on aggregate was enough for them to secure their place in the Group Stage.
The Swiss champions currently sit third in Group G. They lost their opening game 3-1 to RB Leipzig at home in the group opener. That result was followed by a 2-all draw away to Red Star Belgrade.
On the domestic front, Young Boys currently sit second in the Swiss Super League. They are two points behind leaders FC Zurich but do have a game in hand. Young Boys head into the clash with the European champions off the back of a nil all draw with the Swiss Super League leaders at the weekend.
For the Swiss side striker Jean-Pierre Nsame is their top scorer with 5 goals in all competitions. Striker Cedric Itten is their second-leading scorer with 4 goals in all competitions including one in the Champions League group stage. Ulisses Garcia and Filip Ugrinic are tied with 3 assists each to lead the way creatively.
A different test awaits City against an opponent they haven’t faced before at the Wankdorf Stadium.
