Manchester City set Premier League record for consecutive home wins in all competitions

Manchester City have set a new Premier League record for the most consecutive home wins after yesterday’s 2-1 win over Brighton. The win stretched the treble winner’s winning streak to 21 games at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s side has surpassed the record set by Manchester United of 20 consecutive home wins. City now trails Sunderland’s record of 24 consecutive home wins set back in 1891 and 1892 for the all-time English record.

Such has been the dominance of Manchester City at the Etihad even Federico Valverde commented on it. The Real Madrid midfielder said that the atmosphere and the way City play make it the most difficult stadium the La Liga giants have played in.

Pep Guardiola’s side’s home form was the backbone of last season’s maiden UEFA Champions League success. The treble winners saw off RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in last season’s Champions League knockout stages. They won the three home ties by a combined 14-0 to set the foundation for their trip to Istanbul. City would beat Inter Milan in the final to secure the historical treble.

Manchester City’s 21-game home winning streak began with a 4-nil win over Chelsea last January in the FA Cup. All up the run has included 14 wins in the Premier League, 4 wins in the Champions League and 3 in the FA Cup. City’s home form was key in last season’s treble-winning success.

City’s next home game is against Bournemouth in two weeks time.
