Manchester City reportedly lead race for Benfica midfielder Joao Neves

Manchester City are leading the race for Benfica midfielder Joao Neves it has been reported. The young Portuguese midfielder earned his first call-up for the Portuguese national on the back of his strong form to start the season for Benfica.

Graeme Bailey and Sean Walsh report for 90min that the European champions lead the race for the youngster’s services.

Walsh and Bailey add that Manchester City have been keeping close tabs on the young midfielder. They add that the champions believe he would be ready to make the move abroad. In addition, they add that City would face competition for the signing of Neves. They report that Manchester United, PSG, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus all have an interest in Joao Neves.

They also report that Neves is currently contracted with Benfica until 2028. The Premeira Liga champions would be in no rush to sell their prized asset if City decided to big in January.

Chloe Chadwick of Football Fancast has also reported on City’s interest in Neves. Chadwick adds that the youngster shares the same representative as several Manchester City players. Ederson, Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias and Matheus Nunes are all represented by Gestifute. Chadwick adds that it could give the treble winners an advantage in any potential negotiations for the youngster.

Manchester City may intend to add to their midfield in January. They added Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic in the summer but may look to reinforce in January if the opportunity arises. City’s interest in Joao Neves could become a story to watch as the season develops.
