Phil Foden delighted with Manchester City’s win over RB Leipzig

Phil Foden was delighted with Manchester City’s 3-1 UEFA Champions League group stage win over RB Leipzig. The midfielder was one of City’s best players on the night. He scored the opening goal and put in a dominant display as the European champions made it two wins from two group games.

Speaking post game the England international was thrilled with the result after two consecutive losses. He told TNT Sports post-game: “The last two games haven’t gone ideal for us. We’ve come off the back of two rubbish results so today we had to make that right and we definitely did that. The way we played the full game was a delight to watch so I’m really happy.”

Foden also had special praise for Rico Lewis. Lewis put in a man-of-the-match display showing maturity beyond his years to help City secure the win. Foden told the media: “I thought he was brilliant today in that midfield, he broke a lot of lines. Rico has the courage to play at such a young age and I’m happy for him. It’s nice to have an academy player on the pitch with me today as well so I’m really happy for him.”

Julian Alvarez also came in for praise for Foden. Alvarez scored one and set up another in a match-winning cameo off the bench. Foden said: “Julian has been top this season, scoring a lot of goals. He’s someone that we look up to now to score big goals. I’m happy for him and he changed the game and he’s a really important player for us.”

On the back of a crucial win over RB Leipzig, Manchester City will now prepare for Sunday’s trip to London to face Arsenal. Foden and his teammates will now be confident after such a vital win in Germany.
