Manchester City are set to begin contract talks with Erling Haaland in the coming months it has been reported. The European champions are keen to tie down Haaland’s services and to fend off interest from Real Madrid.

Jack Gaughan of the Daily Mail reports that talks on a contract extension are set to begin in the coming months. It is also reported by Gaughan that City intends to tie down Haaland’s long-term future to the club. In addition, Gaughan reports that any new deal with the treble winners will likely include an increase on Haaland’s reported £400,000 per week salary.

City’s number 9 currently has 4 years left to run on his current contract. Jack Gaughan adds that a new deal for Haaland would fend off interest from Real Madrid. The 14-time Champions League winners have long been admirers of Haaland. Manchester City beat the La Liga giants to Haaland’s signature when he joined the club from Borussia Dortmund.
