Josko Gvardiol put in another polished performance in his return to the Red Bull Arena in Manchester City’s 3-1 win over RB Leipzig. It was a successful return to his former club for the Croatian international. Gvardiol’s pedigree was well known before he arrived at the Etihad. However it does appear the treble winners have signed another gem.
Since arriving from RB Leipzig in the summer Gvardiol has gone about his work with minimal fuss. He has quietly shown the quality he has both in possession and when defending. The Croatian defender has made a seamless transition into Pep Guardiola’s squad. It shouldn’t come as a surprise as the defender was one of the most highly regarded players in world football.
Against his former club, Josko Gvardiol played arguably his best game since arriving at City. Starting at left-back the full range of passing in Gvardiol’s game was on display as City dominated the opening 45 minutes. He was an important piece of the City set up as the visitors kept possession to keep the hosts at bay.
Throughout the full 90 minutes, Gvardiol was almost impassable. He constantly showed his defensive skill and acumen to keep RB Leipzig at bay as they attacked more in the second half.

Before the game, the defender received a memento from the German club for his service to the club. It was a nice touch from the DFB Pokal winners.

Given the start Gvardiol has made to his City career, he may be receiving more mementos as his career develops.
