RB Leipzig vs Manchester City: City player ratings

Manchester City returned to winning ways with a professional 3-1 win over RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena. The European champions have now seized control of Group G with a vital three points to make it two wins from two in the group stage. Here are the City player ratings from the win.

City player ratings:

Ederson- 6/10: A quiet night for the City keeper. Could do nothing about the goal. Was his usual composed self with his distribution.

Kyle Walker- 7/10: A typical Kyle Walker performance. Rarely beaten one-on-one and pushed forward as he does. A few sloppy passes but a good performance from City’s captain.

Manuel Akanji- 6.5/10: Battled hard in midfield and defence as he always does. Was caught in possession on multiple occasions before being substituted.

Ruben Dias- 7/10: Dias did his job in another determined display from City’s general at the back. Rarely beaten and set the tone for his team.

Josko Gvardiol- 7.5/10: An extremely polished performance from the Croatian. Capped his return to the Red Bull Arena with a display that showed why City were so keen to sign him. Is building well into his Manchester City career.

Rico Lewis- 9/10: A man-of-the-match display from the 18-year-old City Academy graduate. Was a threat in midfield and was rewarded with an assist for Foden’s opener. Should start against Arsenal on the back of that performance.

Rodri- 7/10: A typical Rodri game that showed just how much City have missed their midfield general domestically. Makes the team tick with his sheer presence in midfield.

Bernardo Silva- 7/10: A welcome return for the Portuguese playmaker. Took up his customary role on the right wing. Makes the treble winners a more potent outfit when played out wide on the right.

Phil Foden- 8.5/10: A fantastic display from Foden, just behind Rico Lewis for the man-of-the-match honour. A quality finish for City’s opener and was a threat to RB Leipzig all game. His game is developing rapidly in midfield.

Jack Grealish- 6/10: Not his most effective performance but did his job before being substituted. Will be better as he gets his touch back after an injury layoff.

Erling Haaland- 6.5/10: As ridiculous as it sounds it does appear that Haaland needs a goal to break the shackles. His sheer presence occupied the Leipzig defence and created space for his teammates to exploit. You do feel the goals will come if he continues to put in those types of displays.

Substitutes:

Jeremy Doku- 7.5/10: A well-taken goal to settle the game. Provided a threat when he came on as City pressed for a winner.

Julian Alvarez- 8/10: An unbelievable cameo performance off the bench from Alvarez. Put City ahead with a quality finish. Set up Doku’s goal to seal the game. Has taken his game to another level this season.

Nathan Ake- 7/10: Helped settle City’s defence when he came on.

Matheus Nunes- N/A: Not on long enough to mark.
