John Stones and Bernardo Silva have travelled with the Manchester City squad to Germany for tomorrow night’s Champions League clash with RB Leipzig. The return of both players will be a welcome boost to the European champions. City have had a minor injury crisis to start the new season. It appears to be subsiding with Stones and Bernardo set to return to the City lineup.
City boss Pep Guardiola confirmed the pair had travelled with the squad at his pre-game press conference. The City boss told the media: “They feel better. Benardo better than John. Both travel, we decide tomorrow. Really happy they’re back. John has not played one minute this season, Bernardo had injury and the birth of his beautiful baby daughter but they’re back and it’s good news for us.”
The return of John Stones and Bernardo Silva will be welcome news for the treble winners. John Stones hasn’t featured since the FA Community Shield defeat to Arsenal. Bernardo hobbled off during City’s 3-1 win over Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League group stage opener. With both a chance to feature against RB Leipzig City’s squad will be boosted.
Another player who will return against the DFB Pokal winners is midfield general Rodri. The Spanish midfielder is suspended for domestic duty after his red card against Nottingham Forest. His inclusion against Leipzig is welcome news for City.
Speaking on Rodri’s return Guardiola said: “Tomorrow Rodri is going to play the game and then I give him a rest, he will go to Madrid for four or five days before the national team in the international break.”
With the return of three key players the Manchester City squad will be bolstered ahead of Wednesday night’s clash with RB Leipzig.
