Manchester City defender Nathan Ake wasn’t happy with his performance in City’s 2-1 loss to Wolves. Ake has been one of the treble winners most consistent players for the past 12 months, but he was unusually off his game in the loss.
But on Saturday Ake had a nightmare up against Pedro Neto. The Portuguese winger was crucial to Wolves success and gave the Dutch international a torrid time as the Midlands club picked up an unexpected three points.
Ake to his credit took responsibility for his unusually poor performance. The defender gave an honest appraisal of his and the team’s performance post-game. He said: “It was not a good enough performance from myself and the team. They had a lot of counterattacks, we should have stopped them. Me, I should have stopped them. I could have done much better on a few occasions. I will definitely look at myself first before anyone else. But I think overall we could have done much better. Yeah, it was (an overall disappointing performance) but I always look at myself and I wasn’t happy with myself.”
With the treble winners losing two consecutive games last week, they’ll be determined to make amends when they face RB Leipzig in Germany this week. The UEFA Champions League Group G clash will allow Pep Guardiola’s side to find their best football ahead of a trip to London to face Arsenal next weekend.
With a busy week ahead, there isn’t much time for Manchester City to dwell on their recent defeats. Pep Guardiola’s side has a busy week ahead as they look to take control of their Champions League group against RB Leipzig. With Ake determined to make amends for his poor performance against Wolves, rest assured the rest of the squad will be just as determined as Ake.
