Esteemed Kompany host Steven Mcinerney reacts to Manchester City’s 2-1 loss to Wolves. It was City’s first loss of the Premier League season, following on from their Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle.
Rodri’s red card last weekend during the treble winner’s win over Nottingham Forest cost Pep Guardiola’s squad dearly against Wolves. The champions lacked their usual fluency and missed the Spaniard’s influence. City have now lost 2 of the 3 games Rodri is suspended for with Arsenal next on the domestic schedule.
The treble winner’s performance was disjointed and lacked their usual polish. It did appear that the squad’s injuries had caught up to Pep Guardiola’s side. Also, the fact that Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic started their first game together may have been a factor in the European champion’s off day.
But that wasn’t the only reason for the treble winner’s defeat as Wolves deserved their victory. Gary O’Neil’s side set up well to frustrate City and then hit them on the break.
