Manchester City went out of the Carabao Cup with a 1-nil defeat at St. James Park. A goal from Alexander Isak was enough to settle the tie and end City’s hopes for Carabao Cup glory.

Although Pep Guardiola’s side lost on the night there were positives from the performance. Oscar Bobb showed he could be a star of the future. He was arguably Manchester City’s most dangerous attacking threat in his first start for the first team. The young Norwegian playmaker looks set for a bright future in the game based on his appearances so far this season.

Kalvin Phillips got through 90 minutes in his first start for City this season. It was a positive step for the England international and there were signs he could feature more this season. Phillips has so far struggled in his time at City but with Rodri’s suspension, he could grow into the season.

Mateo Kovacic and Jack Grealish both returned from injuries in another positive for Pep Guardiola’s side. Their return is a bonus with City suffering a minor injury crisis to start the season.
