While the European champions were beaten, it wasn’t all doom and gloom for City. Oscar Bobb was very impressive in his first start for the Manchester City first team. His ability in tight spaces and his playmaking ability was on show in a promising display. Bobb has shown plenty for City in his appearances so far this season.

Kalvin Phillips was handed a rare start in the defeat. While he wasn’t outstanding, the performance was a step in the right direction for the England international. The hope is now he can build into the season and be a solid contributor for Pep Guardiola this season.

With Jack Grealish and Mateo Kovacic back from injury, the game wasn’t a waste for Manchester City. It was another positive out of last night’s defeat.
