Kovacic returns to training ahead of the Carabao Cup trip to Newcastle

Manchester City prepare to head North to Newcastle for the third round of the Carabao Cup. During Guardiola’s press conference, he confirmed that Kovacic has returned to training ahead of the clash as reported by ManCity.com.

Kovacic has been out of action through injury since before the international break. While he has had an incredible start to his City debut season, he has been missed.

The squad was already smaller that we have seen in recent years following the summer transfer window. Albeit, the summer business looks to be absolutely spot on so far.

Nevertheless, the small squad has meant that injuries to key players have left the bench looking light.

With John Stones still out and Kevin De Bruyne not expected back until January, Kovacic returning is a huge boost.

Grealish has also returned to the Blues following an injury, and he made his come back with just a few minutes against Nottingham Forest.

It is hard to see the Croatia international being named in the starting XI, however having him fit enough to grace the bench will be reassuring. Certainly giving Guardiola further options.
